Short Story Reading and Blog Finale

For this weeks assignment I read "An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge" by Ambrose Bierce. This short story was very interesting to read and really gave the reader a vivid image of what was happening. It was interesting that in the beginning of the story the man is official going to die, then the middle gives you the glimmer of hope that maybe he would live after all, but in the end the author brings you back to the reality that the man really does die, he was just oblivious to what was happening at the moment.

I have mixed feelings about this being the last required blog entry and blog responses. I am happy this is the last blog entry and responses because this lessens my homework load by a small amount per week. However, I have enjoyed the blog entries and responses because they give me a chance to share with my classmates the trials and tribulations I am having with this English class and see what their problems are as well.

All in all, I have enjoyed this class thus far and I am ready for whatever challenge this class brings me throughout the rest of the semester. Hopefully everyone does very well for the rest of the class! Good Luck!

Poems and Short Stories

Coming back from Spring Break this week and getting all my assignments done, was quite a challenge for me. As you can see I am writing this blog post on a Saturday and I normally do not wait this long to get my assignments done, but oh well.

I read my two poems and two short stories for this week's assignment and I found one short story that I really enjoyed, "Winter Dreams" by F. Scott Fitzgerald. This story was really interesting to me, I never knew that a person could develop such a large business in cleaning golfer's clothes. The other items I read were "Araby" by Joyce, "A River-Merchant's Wife: A Letter" by Pound, and "Susie Asado" by Stein.

I did find one small similarity between most of the poems, short stories, and Hemingway's book, and that was "love." However, I do not think that I could find enough information to write our semester project over that topic. I am having such a difficult time trying to find something that I can write a five-page paper about and use "A Moveable Feast" as a reference. I did not find anything while reading that book that I would be able to write about. I am hoping that Mr. Burkhead will give me some ideas to get the ball rolling on finding a topic. It will be due before we know and I do not want to wait until the last minute!

Hemingway

I finished reading "A Moveable Feast" for the second time this week. After reading it twice, I felt very sure about myself for the test. When I got the Spec sheet, however, I was surprised that it was a 2 page essay about a setting, character, point of view, etc. It kind of made me feel that I wasted my time reading the book twice, but then I thought about the Semester Project.

I feel very intimidated by the Semester Project and then due date for that is looming just a month away. I have been thinking about a topic that I could use and have came up with none. Hoping to find a connection I went ahead and read the scholarly essay that can also be used for the semester project. There were some minor connections but nothing that stuck out in my mind as a good topic. Hopefully when I view the video program about "A Moveable Feast" I will have an "ah hah" moment and the topic will be right there in front of me. These are high hopes but I am praying that it comes true.
